A relationship blossomed. She was in the space he never
wanted any other to inhabit but himself. She was in his world. They
had dreams and aspirations alike. They were best friends. They were
lovers. They were young newly weds. Kyle at the tender age of twenty
and Angel a beautiful bride at nineteen. All he ever wanted and worked for
since then was to keep anything that could from penetrating their inner circle
of love. But at one point even Lois Lane walked out on Superman. Deep
down, Kyle still struggles with his loss and is constantly reminded of Angel
every time he dotes on his amazingly gorgeous daughter.
The best day of his life was the birth of Jaide.
His first child, created in love, a new life replacing the recent loss of his
grandmother. He always looked at it as if grandma was making room for the
next generation. That was his way of celebrating instead of wallowing in
the mournful pain of her passing. Jaide was born into the world a warrior.
She didn’t cry coming out of the womb. Her eyes were wide open. She
was ready to face the life ahead. The first image she saw was her daddy.
Pride kept Kyle’s chest swollen. Hope kept him functioning. He
finally had a family.
Jaide was a spitting image of his baby pictures. She was partial to the
sound of the "Superman theme" because he often hummed it to her through Angel’s
stomach. He spoke to her. They had a bond before she was even ready
to come and greet the world. And as soon as she came, they were
inseparable. At times Angel would get jealous, but she accepted it and
learned to use it to her advantage. At twenty-three Kyle was
introduced to fatherhood and the feeling of finally having a family.
Finally having people in his corner that would never turn away from him.
Six months later, his family was splitting up. But Jaide, she was still in
love with daddy. And as he internalized the pain, he always held on to the
promise and pride of his daughters growth with him. Now he’s settled into
the old loner mentality, allowing only his daughter in his space.
And right now, Kyle is tired and little Jaide needs a nap.
"All right princess," he began as he turned toward her
direction. "aren’t you the least bit tired now?"
She smiled at him with the innocence that only a child has to melt a heart and
shook her head. Little Jaide understands perfectly what that means.
Daddy is tired and it’s nap time. Well not on her time, she’s too free
when she gets time with Kyle. Jaide is what’s called a daddy’s girl and
spoiled rotten. He doesn’t mind it. It’s clear that her environment
changes when she isn’t with him, so he lets her have her "cake" at times.
Besides, it isn’t Jaide’s fault that mommy and daddy can’t co-exist. It
truly bothers Kyle when he sees his daughter with those eyes of wonder every
week that he couldn’t save his family or his daughter the confusion of a broken
home. But his ex-wife gives him plenty of material for his weekly column
in his friends’ magazine.
